About This Event:
The Family Eco-Adventure Race is intended to be a fun youth/adult team race for athletes of all abilities and experience. This is the fifth year the Star of the North Adventure Race will be held. The format changes somewhat each year, depending on the terrain and resources of the host community. The 2010 format will resemble the format used in 2009, but in keeping with the spirit of adventure racing, be prepared for some surprises!
Click here to see a photo gallery of the 2009 Adventure Race. It was a great event.
Here is the approximate format for the 2010 edition of the Family Eco-Adventure Race:
Leg 1: Run/walk approximately 1km to 2 miles.
Leg 2: Canoeing approximately 0.5 to 1 mile.
Leg 3: Cycling approximately 2.5 miles.
Leg 4: Orienteering approximately 1.5 miles.
Each participant will complete the entire course. Teams will be timed on the time of the slower of the two team members, so team members are expected to stay together throughout the race. Awards will be given based on overall time.
Location:
Quarry Park, 1802 County Road 137, Waite Park, MN 56387.
Start Time
A mandatory participants’ meeting will be held prior to the race on the morning of the race.
The race will start in waves, with the total number of waves determined by the number of registrants. Teams will be grouped by ages. The first group will begin the race at 9:00 a.m.. Your official wave start time will be confirmed after you register.
The race director reserves the right to re-assign divisions based on participant numbers.
Age Divisions and Eligibility
All teams will consist of two participants. One adult (19 or older) of any age, teamed with a youth (7-18).
There will be three divisions:
Youth 15 – 18 years old, teamed with an adult 19 or over.
Youth 11 – 14 years old, teamed with an adult 19 or over.
Youth 7 – 10 years old, teamed with an adult 19 or over.
Youth athletes may team up with any adult, including parents, neighbors, older siblings, and friends or relatives. Age determined by age on June 26, 2010.
Rules
Cycling helmets required while participants are riding. Tandem bikes and child carriers are not allowed; each youth team member must ride their own bike.
Teams will be timed on the time of the slower of the two team members, so team members are expected to stay together through the race. There is no advantage for the faster team member to move ahead of the slower teammate.
