Adult Competition Format

This is a 5-on-5 tournament.  Adult teams guaranteed a minimum of three scheduled games with 50 percent of the teams playing 4 or more games.

Each team must provide one non-rostered volunteer to serve as a scorekeeper or timekeeper.

A multi-tier playoff format will be used. All playoffs will be single elimination format.  Divisions with twelve or fewer teams will be a single-tier playoff format.  Divisions with 13 to 24 teams will have a two-tier playoff format.  A three-tier playoff format will be used with divisions having 25 or more teams.

Youth Competition Format

New: the youth divisions will play all their games on a single day. This is a 5-on-5 tournament.  All teams will play three games. Competition format will be determined by the number of teams registering.

Each team must provide one non-rostered volunteer to serve as a scorekeeper or timekeeper.

Entries must be postmarked on or before June 4.  Game schedules will be posted on the website and mailed to coaches by June 18.

The tournament director reserves the right to combine age divisions if a division has less than four registered teams.

Eligibility

Open to all Minnesota residents.  A player may be rostered on only ONE team. School classes are determined by the grade in which the participant is entering in the fall of 2010.  Graduating seniors (spring 2010) are not eligible to compete in Senior High division; they must play in the Adult division. Participants may “play up” in an older grade division.  All members of a team must meet the grade-entering criteria.  Each player must provide acceptable documentation of school grade upon request.

As an official state games competition sanctioned by the National Congress of State Games, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) permits student-athletes at NCAA institutions to participate in the Star of the North State Games.

Rules

National Federation of State High School Association (NFSHSA) rules will apply, with modification as necessary.
