New Minnesota concussion law
In September 2011 a law went into effect in the State of Minnesota that requires all coaches and officials involved with all youth sports to be trained in concussion awareness, safety and protection. The Star of the North soccer tournament falls under this law. Coaches and officials must certify they have had this training prior to participation.
If your coaches have completed the training for other programs, including MYSA coaching licensing, within the last three years, they are qualified and do not need to re-do the training course. Just check the box on the online registration page verifying completion of the course.
If you’re coaching staff has not completed the training, the Centers for Disease Control offer a free, online training course. It takes about 30 minutes, and it contains very valuable information. Click here to go to the CDC course.
Schedule
All teams must be prepared to play a game on Friday, June 15, after 4 p.m. Schedules will be mailed to coaches on June 8.
Awards
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each division (U11+). Participant awards will be presented to all U-10 and U-9 players and coaches.
