New Minnesota concussion law
In September 2011 a law went into effect in the State of Minnesota that requires all coaches and officials involved with all youth sports to be trained in concussion awareness, safety and protection. The youth divisions of the Star of the North basketball tournament fall under this law. Coaches and officials must certify they have had this training prior to participation.
If your coaches have completed the training for other programs or tournaments within the last three years, they are qualified and do not need to re-do the training course. Just check the box on the online registration page verifying completion of the course.
If you’re coaching staff has not completed the training, the Centers for Disease Control offer a free, online training course. It takes about 30 minutes, and it contains very valuable information. Click here to go to the CDC course.
